How the Maze is Created
The crop is planted over the whole field in April, and then early in the crop's life, the maze design is marked out using GPS technology, which transfers the outlines of the maze into a series of points. Each point is transferred to the field by placing a numbered bamboo cane at the relevant GPS location.
Joining the numbers in sequence then forms the paths, which are marked out and cleared of plants by a combination of rotavating and manual hoeing.
Next comes placement of the bridges, which were made earlier on the farm and transferred to the field. Then it's just a case of wait until the maize grows for opening time!
The bridges enable visitors to have a bird’s eye view of the maze from the centre of it, and the paths run both over the top and underneath the large 3-way bridge in the centre, and the straight ‘Victory’ bridge at the exit.
