Fundraising for Charity
For 2008, we linked up with Butterfly Conservation to help them celebrate their 40th year. Butterfly Conservation was formed by a small group of naturalists in 1968 following the decline in many butterflies, and is committed to the conservation of both butterflies and moths.
More information and how you can help can be found at http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/.
Our chosen charity for 2007 was 'Send a Cow', a Christian charity enabling poor farmers in Africa to become self-reliant, by providing them with livestock, training and advice. Livestock include cows and other farm animals, with training in livestock rearing and organic farming, and low cost veterinary and advice services.
More information about the charity can be found at www.sendacow.org.uk
During the season, we donated proceeds from our tractor and trailer rides, charged at a nominal 50p per head. Our aim was to provide a cow for Africa, at a cost of £750. A totaliser was run on site, showing our progress, and the final one is shown below, along with a picture taken during a press shoot for the Congleton chronicle handing over a cheque to the charity's representative, Tim Healey.
Our actual final total was £902, which provided:
- a cow, a goat and 10 chickens.
Many thanks to all who participated.
